On the sidelines of his participation in the Global Forum for Food Security and Nutrition in the German capital, Berlin, Yemen's Minister of Agriculture, Irrigation and Fisheries, Major General Salem Al-Soqatri, met with Head of the Middle East Department at the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development Mario Sander,.

Minister Al-Soqtari briefed officials of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development on the latest developments in the agricultural and fisheries situation in particular and the economic and humanitarian situation in general in Yemen, and explained the tragic conditions experienced by the Yemeni people as a result of the successive and various shocks during the last ten years, which collectively formed the main drivers of insecurity, the results of the Integrated Phase Classification of Food Security for the period from October to December 2022 showed that about 17 million people, or 54 percent of Yemen's population of 31.8 million, suffer from food insecurity, in addition to an increase in malnutrition cases for children under 5 years, reaching 2.2 million children, including 538,000 children suffering from acute malnutrition, and about 1.3 million pregnant and lactating women suffering from acute malnutrition.
