Chairman of the General Organization for Museums and Antiquities (GOMA) Dr. Ahmed Ba-Tae'a and Resident Director of the American Institute for Yemeni Studies (AIYS) Dr. Salwa Dammaj, accompanied by architects paid today, Saturday, an inspection visit to the Central Museum of Zungbar city in Abyan governorate.
Zungbar museum suffered serious damages during the aggressive war launched by the terrorist groups on Abyan governorate in 2011.
Dr. Dammag said" Our inspection visit aimed to get first-hands information about the damages, conduct technical study and explore how can we help repair the museum".
The Director of GOMA's branch in Abyan Rabe'a al-Batoul highlighted the need for repairing and furnishing the museum as the central museum in the governorate.
" The Zungbar city museum is the central facility that used to keep large amount of the artifacts, folkloric heritage in Abyan governorate, said al-Abatoul.
He noted that the museum was subjected to great deal of damages by the terrorist groups, a lot of artifacts were robbed and there is a significant amount of the museum collection have been kept in the Central Bank of Yemen can be retrieved once the museum repaired and furnished.
