A workshop on Facing Challenges and Defining Strategies to detect local violations of International Humanitarian Law and International Human Rights Law has been commenced here on Thursday.
The workshop comes within the program of supporting the National Committee to Investigate Alleged Human Rights Violations (NCIAHRV) with support of the International Center for the Transitional Justice and finance from Dutch Foreign Ministry.
The opening speeches delivered by Minister of Justice Badr al-Aredha, the First Lawyer of the Republic of Yemen Judge Fawzi Saif, Vice President of the National Committee Hussein al-Mashdali, Deputy Executive Director of the International Center for the Transitional Justice Anna Miryam and Director of Yemen's Program of the Center Noor al-Baihani confirmed significance of promoting human rights in Yemen and commencing legal actions to bring justice to victims.
The Charge D'Affairs of Dutch Embassy in Yemen Marica Werda delivered a speech in which she praised efforts of the national committee for seven years in monitoring and documenting violations to human rights and reaching victims, pointing out to significance of supporting all means, which will realize just and inclusive peace in Yemen.
Participated by members of NCIAHRV, Chairman of Judiciary Inspection Authority and Representatives of the Judiciary Authority the three-day workshop discusses most important challenges facing judiciary and the national committee in implementing transitional justice.
It also discusses mechanisms of holding accountability, strategies and proceeding, judiciary detection and providing ways of holding responsibility in the process of the transitional justice, in addition to topics associated with prosecution files regarding oppressive detention, torture and death during custody.
