Minister of Water and Environment Eng. Tawfeeq Asharjabi announced today that the government has allocated 17 million and 503 thousand USD from Yemen's funds assigned by the Global Environment Facility to support the livelihoods methods in the local communities in the regions of the natural protections in Soqatra, Uthoma and Hof.
In a statement to the Yemeni News Agency (Saba) the Minister said the project will be carried out in the onset of the next year in partnership with the World Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations.
He stated that the project is intended to help creating job opportunities friendly for the environment in the natural protections, support the farmers and fishermen to develop the diversity of the agricultural ecosystem, rationally exploit maritime resources, develop the institutional and human capacity buildings.
The project is targeting to re-naturalize 25 thousand hectares of the natural protections' lands, 75 hectares of the grasslands lands and 300 hectares of the forests.
