Meeting in Washington discusses energy and transportation projects in Yemen

A meeting was held in the US capital, Washington, today, involving the Ministers of Planning and International Cooperation, Dr. Waed Badeeb, and Finance Salem Bin Brik, and the participation of the Minister of Electricity and Energy, Eng. Mana Bin Yamin, via video communication technology, and the country director of the Yemen office at the World Bank.

The Minister of Planning expressed the government's thanks to the World Bank Group for the continuity of support provided to the Yemeni people and the state's service institutions.. He indicated the government's aspiration for more direct support from the International Development Association in Portfolio 20 to develop a strategy to exit fuel subsidies in cities, especially hot and coastal areas and providing basic services, preserving human capital and moving towards development while enhancing food security, resilience and livelihood opportunities.

He pointed to the importance of presenting a strategy for the gradual transition from total dependence on United Nations organizations and working to empower national institutions and executive units that are recognized for their efficiency and that must be relied upon in the current transitional phase.
