The Yemeni government confirmed that there are no restrictions, old or new, imposed by the government on the import of oil products through the seaport of Hodeidah, even though the seaport is under the Houthi militia's control.
The government said that the procedures for the seaport are the same that have been applied with since the beginning of the truce announced on April 2, 2022, and they are exactly the same procedures that are applied in the rest of the country's ports.
A statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriate Affairs, a copy of which was received by the Yemeni News Agency (Saba), said that the Houthi militias have been forcing companies and traders of oil derivatives since last August 10 to import oil derivatives exclusively through Hodeidah seaport since the announcement of the truce on April 2 2022, which will obstruct the entry of oil-laden ships on a regular basis in accordance with the terms of the ongoing truce and create an artificial fuel crisis.
The statement added that the Yemeni government informed the UN envoy and the countries sponsoring the political process of the danger of the militias attempting to bypass the established mechanism, which aims behind it to facilitate the import of smuggled oil and the introduction of prohibited materials and to enable private companies affiliated with Houthi leaders to import fuel directly, in addition to restarting the black market from which Houthis profiteer..
