FM UN envoy discuss dangers of Houthi military escalation
[31/08/2022 02:02]
Riyadh – Saba
Today, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Affairs, Dr. Ahmed Awad bin Mubarak, discussed with the Special Envoy of the Secretary-General of the United Nations to Yemen, Hans Grundberg, the path of the UN truce and peace efforts in light of the recent attacks of the Houthi coup militia in the Al-Dhabab area in Taiz and its continuous violations of the ceasefire and its barbaric and provocative methods. In dealing with international efforts to stop the war and achieve peace.

Bin Mubarak said, "At a time when the people of Yemen in general, and Taiz in particular, are waiting for the militias' commitment to open the main roads to Taiz after seven years of siege, the Houthi militias announced their defiance to the international community by trying to cut off the only remaining road to the besieged city, which reflects the extent of the militias' disregard for international efforts and the militia's miscalculation of the position of the Yemeni government and the Yemeni people yearning to restore the state and end the coup.

He stressed that these actions put the existing truce and the initiatives and endeavors to expand and extend it to the test, unless there are firm stances towards these practices, stressing that maintaining what has been achieved requires obligating the militias to implement the clause on opening roads, stopping all violations and mobilization of fighters and exploiting the commitment of the government and the Arab coalition to achieve gains for the militia at the expense of the Yemeni people.

For his part, the UN envoy affirmed his condemnation of all acts of escalation and his keenness to address all violations through a joint mechanism that ensures adherence to the ceasefire, pointing to his continuing efforts to reach an expanded truce and find a way to move forward in the peace process to serve the aspirations of Yemenis after the truce gave them space from Hope to end the war.
