The first meeting of the Steering Committee of Developing Fishery Wealth Project held here Wednesday discussing plans of implementing the project, which will be implemented by the Public Works Project with financing of USD 13.3 million from Islamic Bank for Development.
The meeting was headed by Minister of Planning and International Cooperation Wa'id Batheeb and Minister of Fishery Wealth Salem al-Socotry.
The project includes constructing 13 fish unloading centers in eight provinces; Aden, Ra'as al-Arah Lahj, Shocra in Abyan, Qalanisia in Socotra, Qusaier and Huseihisa in Hadhramout, Qashen and Syhoot in Mahra, Salif, Khokha and Kamaran in Hodeida and al-Zuhari in Taiz.
The project aims at improving economic and livelihood conditions of families of small fishers through creating economic chances to poor people from women and men in villages of fishermen.
Batheeb confirmed that the ministry is making the file of developing fishery and agricultural sectors on top of its priorities and gives them special care.
He renewed call to all supporters from brothers and friends and donor funds to continue their real interventions and support productive sectors and work on boosting food security.
For his part, al-Socotry confirmed significance of the project as it is considered one of the vital projects, which will help in developing fishery sector through constructing unloading centers, praising support of the donors for developing fishery and agricultural sectors.
