Badheib: The World Bank agrees to provide an additional grant of $100 million

The Minister of Planning and International Cooperation, Dr. Waed Badheib confirmed that the Board of Directors of the World Bank agreed to provide an additional grant of 100 million US dollars earmarked to support the second phase of the emergency project to provide electricity in Yemen, following the visit of a high-level delegation of the World Bank to the temporary capital Aden.

The Minister of Planning said in a statement to the Yemeni News Agency (Saba) "that the project aims to increase access to electricity in rural areas and the outskirts of cities in Yemen, as well as planning to restore the capacity of the electricity sector in the country." Minister Badheib added, "This additional grant is provided by the International Development Association, which is the arm of the World Bank to help the poorest countries around the world," noting that the project will be implemented by the United Nations Office for Project Services, in partnership with local stakeholders.

The Minister of Planning and International Cooperation indicated that the grant will contribute to providing many public service facilities with new or improved electricity services, which will help improve citizens' access to vital services, and the project will enable small and innovative businesses to obtain solar energy systems.
