PM receives EU Mission, Ambassadors in temporary capital Aden

Prime Minister Dr. Ma'een Abdulmalki received today, Wednesday, in the temporary capital Aden the EU Mission and a number of Ambassadors of European countries to the Republic of Yemen.

The EU diplomats' visit to Aden aimed to demonstrate the EU's supportive stances in support of the Presidential Leadership Council (PLC), Yemeni government and the ongoing efforts to establish peace.

The discussions covered a wide-range of topical issues including Yemeni-European relations, EU's support for Yemen at this critical stage to sustain the Yemeni government's efforts to deal with the economic hardships, humanitarian challenges, achieve food security and go on the structural reforms.

The conversations also touched upon the UN-sponsored truce, prospects to extend it and the EU's role in pressuring Houthi militias to fulfill its obligations under the truce agreement articles and the underway efforts to reach political settlement in Yemen.

The Prime Minister cited the government's ongoing efforts to make the needed reforms and manage the economic challenges, first and foremost food security, maintain the national currency exchange rates and improve basic services.

Ma'een highlighted the government's need for greater European support so that it can improve basic services mainly in education, health and higher education.

The EU diplomats confirmed their support for the PLC, the government, the Yemeni people and peace efforts.

The delegation included the Head of the EU Mission, Ambassadors of France, Germany, Netherlands, Austria, Sweden, Norway and the Swedish special envoy to Yemen.
