Prime Minister Dr. Maeen Abdul-Malik stressed that the main pillar of achieving food security in parallel with the current government measures to deal with the current global developments, is to give absolute priority to supporting the agricultural sector and its workers, by all available means.

Heading a meeting with the leaders of the Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation in the temporary capital Aden today, the premier directed the ministry to quickly prepare a comprehensive strategy and general national policies for the agriculture and food security sector and the associated national investment plan, as stipulated in the government’s general program, stressing the need to pay attention to agricultural research to enhance its role in agricultural development, by producing techniques to improve plant and animal production in quantity and quality, and by adopting sustainable management methods for natural resources.

Dr. Maeen Abdul-Malik pointed to the importance of involving the cooperative union, agricultural cooperative societies and the private sector, each in their respective fields of competence, in preparing and implementing this strategy, within the framework of the complementary role to achieve food security and re-promote the agricultural sector as the mainstay of development.
