Minister of Water and Environment Tawfeeq al-Sharjabi discussed Monday with Dutch Ambassador to Yemen Peter Derk Hof and Deputy General Manager of International Cooperation in Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs cooperation and coordination between Yemen and Netherlands in financing water and sanitation projects.
The meeting discussed also cooperation between the two countries in other domains and current efforts to solve Safir Oil Tanker issue.
Minister al-Sharjabi praised Dutch support to Yemen in field of water supply, sanitation services and environment for decades, in addition to support in field of building technical abilities of the ministry's cadre, calling for resumption of those programs to help the ministry improve water services and sanitation, which have collapsed over the seven-year war in Yemen.
He pointed out to dangers of deterioration of Safir tanker, which has been stranded off Hodeida's coasts for dozens of years, praising Dutch role in this field to avoid potential disaster over Houthi militia's rejection to cooperate to avoid the disaster if the tanker sinks or explodes into the Red Sea.
For her part, the Dutch official praised cooperation level in implementing programs provided by Netherlands, especially in field of integrated management of water resources and adaptation with environmental changes and efforts associated with Safir tanker.
She showed readiness of the Kingdom of Netherlands to promote cooperation and coordination with Yemen's ministry of Water and Environment in different fields.
