The Minister of Water and Environment, Eng. Tawfiq Al-Sharjabi, renewed his ministry’s warning of the dangers of keeping dilapidated ships in the seaport of Aden, stressing the need to urgently remove them from the vicinity of the port and dismantle them.

Minister Al-Sharjabi directed the Public Authority for Environmental Protection to work quickly with the relevant authorities in the Maritime Transport Authority and the Gulf of Aden Ports Corporation, to urgently get rid of the dilapidated ships in the dumping area in the port of Aden, noting that their continued stay in the port since times earlier than 2015 without being subject to any maintenance or unloading of petroleum materials stored in their tanks constitutes a source of a serious environmental threat that may lead to the destruction of marine habitats in the Gulf of Aden and impede navigation in the event of the sinking of at least some of these dilapidated ships.
