Minister of Planning and International Cooperation, Dr. Waed Badeeb, met with the World Bank's Regional Director for Egypt, Yemen and Djibouti, Country Director of the Yemen Office at the Bank, and the Yemen Country Office team, with the participation of the Governor of the Central Bank of Yemen, Ahmed Ghaleb Al-Maabqi.
During the meeting, they reviewed updates on the World Bank's existing projects in Yemen, their implementation mechanisms, the possibility of restructuring Yemen's debts and obligations towards the International Development Association, and encouraging the Bank's efforts to support the capabilities of public finance, the Central Bank and planning with regard to public debt and the possibility of strengthening the infrastructure for the purchase and operation of private systems.
Badeeb asserted that the government is looking forward to resuming the work of the World Bank office in the temporary capital Aden, and working with the World Bank’s country team to implement projects through government institutions working on the ground and building the capacities of executive units and national institutions, which in turn will improve the effectiveness of the Bank’s projects and enhance transparency and the government’s ability to monitor and evaluate Projects execution.
