Prime Minister Dr. Maeen Abdulmalik and the Special Envoy of the UN Secretary General to Yemen Hans Grundberg conferred today over a UN's proposal aims to mitigate the humanitarian suffering and push the efforts to revive the political process to establish peace.
Grundberg briefed Ma'een on the underway efforts to work out a framework for multi-tracks process to draw an outline to reach a comprehensive political settlement.
The conversations touched upon the Yemeni-Yemeni consultations are being held in Riyadh under the GCC's auspices as part of the regional and international endeavors aiming to push the political solution.
The UN's role to mount pressure on the Houthi militia to respond to the calls for dialogue and the urgently needed measures to bail out the Yemeni economy and sustain the government's efforts alleviate the humanitarian suffering were also discussed.
The Prime Minister reiterated the government's full support for the UN envoy's efforts to de-escalate the conflict to pave the way for reviving the political process.
He stated that the government has never been an obstruction to peace, rather it always deals constructively with all peace proposals and efforts. " The problem is that Houthi militia has never sought peace, continued to reject all calls for dialogue, the most recent one is the GCC's call for Riyadh consultations, they even refuse to receive the UN's envoy in Sana'a", said Ma'een.
For his part, Mr. Grundberg highlighted Yemen's need to urgently reach a truce with the advent of the month of Ramadan, stressing the importance of resuming the peace process and Riyadh consultations to find out solutions to the touch economic hardships the Yemenis have been struggling with.
