Parliament Speaker receives UN Under Secretary General for Political Affairs

Parliament Speaker Sheikh Sultan al-Barakani received Wednesday here United Nation Under Secretary General for Political Affairs Rosemary A. DiCarlo discussing with her latest developments in Yemen, means of realizing peace and UN's role in this purpose under Houthi militia's stubbornness and rejection to all peace initiatives.

Al-Barakani confirmed government's peace approach on the bases of the three agreed upon initiatives; the GCC Initiative, the Outcomes of the National Dialogue Conference and Security Council Resolution 2216, and realizing peace across Yemen.

He pointed out that dialogue that respects Yemenis' will is the shortest way for realizing just peace, saying that Houthi militia does not believe in dialogue because it moves within Iranian agenda, which have destroyed everything in Yemen.

" Houthis toppled all peace initiatives made by the two envoys for Yemen and of Saudi Arabia and US Administration," he said, warning of Houthi militia's crimes and terrorism, which passes regional borders and recruiting children as soldiers.

He demanded the UN to take serious and practical steps to put pressure on Houthi militia to surrender to peace process.
The two parties also discussed complicating crises and humanitarian suffering over Houthi militia's coup.

For her part, the UN Under Secretary General confirmed importance of realizing peace in Yemen, pointing out that the UN is concern over Yemeni people's suffering and fears and saves no efforts for ending humanitarian suffering in Yemen.

She pointed out to continuous efforts for realizing permanent peace in Yemen, pointing out that there are meetings with many parties for pushing political process forward, saying that she and the UN Secretary General will work with different foreign parties to end suffering of Yemeni people.
