Planning minister discusses with WB mobilizing resources to Yemen

Minister of Planning and International Cooperation Wa'id Batheeb discussed Thursday with Vice President of World Bank for Middle East Affairs and North Africa Farid Balhaj through visual communication mobilizing available resources to support Yemen.

The meeting, which comes in the framework of annual meetings of the World Bank, discussed views and comments of the WB's technical team on matrix projects of the organization in Yemen; Social Protection Project, Urban Services Project and Project of Financing Fishery Wealth, as well as capacity building of Yemen's central bank, private sector, works environment and statistic systems.

The meeting touched upon the deteriorated situation of power sector and recent visit by the World Bank's mission to evaluate power sector.

The convening officials agreed on following up outcomes of the meeting within mutual technical meetings to tackle all suspended issues and going forward for implementing the matrix of projects.

Batheeb pointed out to directing the WB's interventions in line with government's imminent priorities and increasing support to the forthcoming matrix projects, especially in field of transport and roads in addition to creating balance between emergency intervention and development.

For his part, Balhaj talked about WB's support to Yemen, confirming continuous work with the board of the organization to mobilize all available resources to support Yemen overcome its current crisis.

Meanwhile, the Executive Director of World Bank Mirza Hassan talked about challenges facing Yemen because of repeated conflicts and crises and their effect on humanitarian and economic situations.

Praising efforts of the government in working with the World Bank, Hassan confirmed keenness of the organization to consider all points made by the government led by taking care of transport and road projects, providing basic services, supporting private sector and capacity building of national foundations.
