Yemen has participated in the opening of 76th session of the UN General Assembly (UNGA) held in New York.
Yemen's delegation was headed by Foreign Minister Dr. Ahmed Awad bin Mubarak. At the opening of the session, the United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres referred to the issues and challenges facing the world today as a result of the novel coronavirus pandemic (Covid-19), global warming, natural disasters, wars and conflicts in a number of countries.
The current President of the United Nations General Assembly, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Maldives, Abdullah Shahid, also welcomed everyone to the assembly’s inaugural session after a year and a half of fear, sadness and restrictions imposed by the coronavirus pandemic, stressing that the session will seek to address the issue of climate change, enhance access to vaccines, protect human rights and promote the role of the United Nations.
The general discussion of this year's session focuses on building resilience to recover from the coronavirus pandemic, rebuilding sustainability, responding to the needs of the planet, respecting human rights, and revitalizing the United Nations.
