Bin Mubarak briefs HCHR on Houthi militia's violations

Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Dr. Ahmed Awadh bin Mubarak met today here in Geneva with the United Nation High Commissionaire for Human Rights, Michelle Bachelet.

They conferred over human rights situation in Yemen amid Houthi militia's abuses against the Yemeni people.

Bin Mubarak stated that Houthi coup d'état is basically a grave violation of human rights in Yemen because it has abolished the citizen's right to elect the one who assume power, nevertheless the Houthis claim to have divine privileges authorizing them exclusively to govern, they have embarked on an authoritarian-racist policy, exercising arbitrary arrests, enforced disappearances, bombing the opponents' houses, torture, recruit children prevent the people from demonstration and freedom of expression.

He reiterated the Yemeni government commitment to the International Humanitarian Law and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. He stated that the government has been sincerely seeking for handling all humanitarian issues through reaching an overall cease-fire as a humanitarian measure must be done immediately.

He blamed Houthi militia for rejecting all peace proposals aimed to end the war, establish peace. " The militiamen have continued to target the IDPs camps in Marib governorate, besiege the city of Taiz, assaulting Mocha harbor with ballistic missile and drones, ruining storages of food stuffs.

The UN High Commissionaire for Human Rights underscored the need for establishing peace in Yemen and halting war to address the humanitarian impacts of the warfare.
