Yemen's Information Minister has said the Iran-backed Houthi militants bear full responsibility for the closure of the Sana'a International Airport owing to their insistence on using it for non-civilian purposes.
Muammar al-Eryani said the theocratic militants roiling Yemen in a years long war are seeking to get the airport opened to smuggle in arms and military technology from Iran and Hezbollah party in Lebanon.
He said the government had proposed in several previous negotiations the opening of the airport and resumption of civil internal and overseas flights upon certain conditions that guarantee the non-use of the facility for military purposes.
He said the Houthi militia refused those offers and insisted on opening direct flights between Sana'a and Tehran and the rest of the capitals controlled by Iran's sectarian militias.
