Prime Minister Dr. Maeen Abdulmalik affirmed the government's keenness to find broad partnerships to solve the problem of power supply and raise generating capacities by adopting feasible and less expensive options, including renewable energy.

During a virtual meeting held today with the CEO of Siemens Global Energy, the Prime Minister indicated Yemen's need for support in formulating a vision in the short and medium term to overcome the drain that electricity represents for public finances, rehabilitate the sector's infrastructure, and take advantage of the most efficient alternatives to provide a satisfactory service for the public, expressing his aspiration to benefit from the expertise of Siemens in this field and to build partnership relations with it.

The meeting discussed possible areas of partnership between the government and Siemens to plan the electricity sector in Yemen and increase its generating capacities by relying on less costly means, and the financing opportunities available for that. They discussed the reality of the electricity sector in Yemen, the plans to advance it, the most important obstacles facing this vital sector, and radical solutions to overcome them.

The prime minister reviewed the existing challenges in the field of electricity and energy, starting with planning for the sector in a comprehensive way, and setting up generation, distribution networks and connectivity.

He pointed out that there are existing opportunities to produce electricity using less costly and more sustainable means, whether with gas or renewable energy. He said, "We will work with our partners from regional and international funds and donor countries to provide the necessary funding." In turn, the CEO of Siemens Global Energy affirmed the company's readiness to work with the government in formulating visions and solutions to the challenges it faces in the sector, and harnessing its expertise in this regard.
