RIYADH – SABA
Minister of Legal Affairs and Human Rights Ahmed Arman discussed with the Chargé d'Affaires for the U.S. Embassy to Yemen Cathy Westley aspects of Yemeni-US cooperation in the fields of human rights, support for training and rehabilitation projects and capacity-building for the ministry's staff.
The minister raised the situation in light of the Houthi putschist militia's continuous violations of human rights and escalation against civilians in all governorates, including targeting residential neighborhoods in the Marib governorate with ballistic missiles and armed drones, which ha exacerbated the humanitarian crisis and increased the suffering of the displaced people.
For her part, Westley affirmed her country's support to Yemen in various fields, including human rights, and called on the Houthi militia to immediately respond to international calls for a cease-fire and enter into negotiations.
She also called for the need to complete the implementation of the Riyadh Agreement to achieve peace in Yemen.
Arman also held a separate meeting with the deputy British ambassador Simon Smart over issues related to human rights in the country and the important role the United Kingdom plays in achieving peace and strengthening cooperation between the two countries to protect human rights.
