RIYADH - SABA
Vice President Ali Mohsen Saleh received Wednesday the Commander of US Naval Forces Central Command, the Fifth Fleet, Brad Cooper and Charge D'Affairs of US Embassy in Yemen Cathy Westley discussing with them military cooperation, facing challenges and fighting terrorism and extremism.
The two parties also discussed securing international maritime navigation and efforts for ending conflict in Yemen.
Vice President praised the role of US forces in combating Iranian weapons smuggling and successes accomplished in this domain.
He pointed out to terrorism and sabotage acts in Yemen over Houthi militia's seizure of authority through its coup, which was financed by Iran and dangerous repercussions posed by the militia and its supporters on water ways and international security and peace.
Yemen is abided by strong strategic joint partnership for fighting terrorism and extremism and boosting regional marine security, he said, pointing out to legitimacy's efforts for ending the coup and fighting terrorism and extremism, banning Iranian weapons smuggling and working on securing maritime navigation.
He reconfirmed legitimacy's position for peace and its positive dealing with all efforts and initiatives, pointing out that Houthi militia implements Iran's directives, which rejects all efforts for peace.
He confirmed significance of US and international support to efforts of combating terrorism in Yemen and the region.
For his part, the US commander talked about US efforts in combating smuggling and boosting marine security, confirming his country's readiness to boost support to these efforts and joint cooperation to limit terrorism and sabotaging.
