Speaker of Parliament Sultan al-Barakani held virtual discussions today with the UN's envoy to Yemen Martin Griffiths.

They conferred over the developments in Yemen and the ongoing military escalation by Houthi militia on the governorate of Marib.

The conversations focused on the necessary measures need to be taken urgently to stop the ongoing devastating war in Marib, the UN-led political efforts to resolve the Yemeni crisis and the economic, health and humanitarian situations.

Al-Barakani stated that the legitimate government is keen to support the peace efforts and to put an end of the Yemeni crisis. To this end, it has been reacting constructively to all initiatives and calls for peace, most recent of all the Saudi proposal. He blamed Houthi militia for refusing all initiatives and undermining the UN-led efforts in this regard.

The Speaker of Parliament stated that the Houthi militia's ongoing war on Marib will put the UN's credibility to questioning.

He noted that the continuation of the war in Marib will produce an affordable humanitarian, environmental and economic crisis all Yemen will be affected by in case that oil and gas facilities are subjected to Houthi militia's terrorist acts that Houthis have been famous for since the onset of the war.

The UN envoy cited the efforts he has been making with all parties to stop the war in Marib. He stated that the UN is opposing all military actions the Houthis are carrying out.

He stated that the UN is doing its utmost to stop military confrontations, intensively communicating with all parties that can play constructive role in ceasing the fighting and bringing the Yemenis to consultations immediately.
