Houthi militia won’t yield to de-escalation calls without pressure, says Eryani
[06/03/2021 07:23]

ADEN - SABA
Yemen’s Information Minister said the Houthi militia won’t yield to de-escalation calls unless they come under military and political pressure.

In a statement to Saba, Muammar al-Eryani said, “The Houthi militia won’t yield to the calls for de-escalation … and engage in peacebuilding based on the three references unless they come under military and political pressure, something which the international community should understand.”

He said that since the September 2014 coup, the militia “have not sat on the dialogue table except under military pressure: As, first, when the army seized Nehm front, the northern entrance to Sana’a, and, second, when the Combined Forces came close to controlling Hodeidah city.”

He added that even “at each round of negotiations, the militia were not serious about reaching a peaceful solution to the crisis. Their engagement was a mere maneuver to take a break and then regroup and recruit and brainwash more fighters.”
Al-Eryani called on the international community and the UN to “not waste more time and efforts in trying to convince Houthis to yield to peace, because Yemeni people are bleeding due to the Houthi military escalation.”

He called on the international community to “take an action to support the government to assert its control, end the Iran-backed coup and set a limit to the suffering” of the Yemeni people.”
