The Houthi militia have backed down for the fourth time on a promise to allow UN technicians to salvage the time-bomb oil tanker of Safer in the Red Sea, Yemen’s Information Minister said.
Muammar al-Eryani said, “The Iran-backed Houthi militia continue foot-dragging and tampering with the Safer tanker” issue using the dangerously decaying vessel as a “time-bomb to manipulate the international community.”
Laden with 1.4 millions of crude and bandoned without maintenance since 2015, the tanker threatens an unprecedented environmental disaster in the Red Sea that will impact Yemen and the whole region.
“Does the international community now realize that we are dealing with a terrorist militia that adopts death slogans and does not care a bit about the international resolutions ... the lives of Yemenis, nor the other disastrous consequences [of a possible oil spill] that will stay for decades?” he asked.
