Planning Minister, World Bank discuss support to infrastructure projects

Minister of Planning and International Cooperation Wa'id Batheeb discussed Wednesday with the Executive Director of the World Bank Mirza Hassan support to projects of roads, transportation and infrastructure.

In the meeting held through visual communication, the two parties discussed necessity of supporting development, creating work opportunities, boosting economic growth and infrastructure projects, as well as facilitating relief supplies, which include transport and road projects and providing additional and special support to the ports for the same purpose.

Minister Batheeb confirmed significance of road projects, which will get USD 20 million from the WB's allocations for improving main and rural roads, pointing out to the government's plans of improving ports of Aden and Mukalla as the prime outlets for the most aid and humanitarian assistances provided to Yemen.

He stressed significance of facilitating funds exchange through the Central Bank of Yemen in coordination with the World Bank to the international organizations, which have been working for three years as third party.

For his part, the executive director of the World Bank confirmed continuation of support to developmental projects in Yemen and the organization's plans for focusing on funds exchange through the Central Bank of Yemen, as well as support to road sector, ports and infrastructure.

He renewed the organization's keenness on supporting government and private's sectors for boosting economic stability and coordination with donors and other development partners for creating multi-donors credit fund.
