Water Ministry, UNICEF hold workshop on water in Aden

Ministry of Water and Environment represented by the Executive Unit of Water and Sanitation Projects and UNICEF organized Monday a workshop on surveying and evaluating water wells in Aden within water and sanitation projects in urban areas.

Represented by 45 participants representing water ministry, urban city authority, local corporation for water and sanitation in Aden and local and international organizations, as well as Aden district directors, academics, engineers and technicians in water field, the workshop discussed points of counting the wells, remote sensation including making geographical data and studying water quality and evaluating groundwater resources as strategic alternative to the city.

The project targets Aden's eight districts in terms of surveying private water wells and defining their financial conditions, access to them and environment surrounding them.

Minister of Water and Environment Tawfeeq al-Sharjabi confirmed significance of the workshop reflected by suffering of the Republic of Yemen in general and Aden in particular over scarcity of water.

He pointed out to efforts of the ministry and other state bodies associated with water and sanitation in cooperation with international and local partners for preparing inclusive and complete study on expanding water and sanitation services.

Meanwhile, Deputy Governor of Aden Mohammad Shatheli confirmed keenness of the local authority's leadership on helping efforts of the ministry and its bodies and UNICEF for providing water service and overcoming all relevant problems.

For her part, Acting Director of UNICEF in Aden Fathia Hassan pointed out to significance of the workshop for identifying alternative sources of water through the proposed studies and finding solutions helping in overcoming challenges facing water sector in Aden.

The Representative of the Consulting Company entrusted with studying situations of water in Aden Engineer Zaki Mohammad reviewed information on surveying and evaluating private wells water's quality in Aden.
