Yemen’s Information Minister Muammar al-Eryani said labeling Houthis as a terrorist organization will “do justice to Yemeni women and millions of other victims of the militia’s crimes against humanity.”

In a statement to Saba, al-Eryani cited the case of Soniya Saleh a female rights activist who is currently telling TV channels horrific tales of what she had experienced over one year in a Houthi jail in Sana’a before she was recently freed against a big ransom.”

“What happened to Soniya is an example of what Yemeni women suffer,” al-Eryani said. Soniya says she was supposed to all forms of torture including the removal of her nails, peeling off of skin, and constant severe beating until she could not stand up on her feet in her dark solitary confinement in an underground jail.

Commenting on the viral story, al-Eryani said, “It is only one of thousands of similar crimes that did not spare women … and violated the social conventions of chivalry amidst deafening silence by international organizations for human rights and women protection.”
