RIYADH - SABA
Parliament Speaker Sultan al-Barakani discussed Monday with UN Envoy to Yemen Martin Griffiths peace horizons and the political settlement made by the envoy through joint declaration to be presented to Yemeni parties.
In the meeting attended by Deputy Speaker Mohsen Bassurrah, al-Barakani confirmed that the peace is the choice of believers not the choice of Houthi militia, which violates Stockholm Agreement in Hodeida, killing innocent people, burning industrial compounds and transforming Adduraihim area into a theater of its crimes.
He pointed out that Houthi militia neglects the Security Council's resolutions and agreements the militia signed, continues looting of the Central Bank of Yemen in Hodeida and rejects all international calls for avoiding potential environmental disaster in the Red Sea by refusing maintenance work to Safir Oil Tanker.
He shouldered the UN and its envoy to Yemen the full responsibility on Houthi militia's practices against Yemeni people, considering UN's positions a blind eye to Houthi militia's criminal practices.
The calls for peace and ceasefire only come when Houthis need them not for stopping bloodshed of Yemeni people in the area converted by Houthis into permanent fighting theater threatening lives of Yemeni people and their interests.
He pointed out that the government of President Abd-Rabbu Mansour Hadi has given all chances to UN envoys led by Griffiths and dealt positively with all choices and initiatives for the sake of peace in Yemen while Houthi militia destroys all peace chances and violates all agreements choosing violence approach as a means for their agendas.
He acquainted the envoy with ongoing preparations for implementing Riyadh Agreement.
For his part, Griffiths expressed regret for bloodshed in Yemen, pointing out that these incidents undermine peace chances, confirming international community's will on realizing peace in Yemen and ending suffering of Yemeni people through reaching a political settlement.
Showing concern for continuous violence and not solving Safir issue, he expressed what is going on in Hodeida is unacceptable and undermine all peace chances.
