RIYADH-SABA
The speaker of Yemen’s parliament Sultan al-Barakani said the Houthis are violating de-escalation deals and memorandums of understanding everywhere.
In a meeting with the Chinese ambassador to Yemen today, al-Barakani said the theocratic armed group are stepping up fight in the provinces of Marib, Beidha and elsewhere in spite of the ceasefire; failing to respect the memorandums of understanding such the Stockholm Agreement and de-escalation mechanisms in Hodeidah; and using the dangerously decaying Safer oil tanker in the Red Sea as an extortion against the international community.
Al-Barakani said the international community unfortunately makes light of this Houthi maximalist attitude on “these issues, which emboldens the militia to go further in stubbornness, bloodshed and destruction.”
“The international community has not done the least bit of thing to stop the Houthi genocidal war which the militia has been waging for months to attempt to press forward on Marib city,” he said.
Al-Barakani and the ambassador Kang Yong also discussed the steps to implement the military aspect of the Riyadh Agreement between the government and the Southern Transitional Council, to set the stage for the return of the government to the temporary capital Aden.
Al-Barakani called for supporting the Saudi efforts to enforce the deal and re-normalize the situations.
