CAIRO - SABA
The Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, Ahmed Abu ElGheit, warned of the danger posed by the decaying oil tanker of Safer, which the Yemeni Houthi militia holds hostage without allowing UN team to maintain it.
The tanker contains more than one million barrels of oil on board.
In a statement, Aboul Gheit said, "The disaster in Lebanon and the horrific devastation it has caused reminds us of the danger of the situation of this floating oil tank off the Yemeni coast, which has not been maintained since the outbreak of the (Yemen) war in 2015."
He called on the UN Security Council to intervene immediately to provide UN maintenance experts access to the tanker.
