RIYADH - SABA
Minister of Culture Marwan Dammaj met Thursday with the deputy Ambassador of the United Kingdom (UK) to the Republic of Yemen Simon Smart.

Yemeni-British cooperation was key focus of the discussions.

Dammaj sought for British support to help protecting Yemen's cultural heritage .

The two sides explored the idea of signing a memo of understanding between the two countries to ban purchasing, transporting and dealing with Yemeni antiquities in the UK.

The discussions touched upon the ongoing cooperation between the Ministry of Culture and British Cultural Council which includes rehabilitate a number of museums and training Yemeni staffs to preserve cultural heritage.

The Ministry of Culture signed last year an agreement with the USA government to ban trafficking with Yemeni antiquities in the USA which is the largest market for dealing with relics. The UK is the second market for antiquities.
