[21/05/2020 11:54]

TAIZ-SABA
The unreported active cases of coronavirus infections is what poses a big threat to Yemen's third largest and most densely populated city of Taiz in the country's southwest, officials said.

In a press conference held by the national Emergency Committee on Coronavirus on Wednesday, the director of the city's main laboratory Ahmed Mansour said, "The active cases, which the Health Ministry office and medical teams are unaware of, are what pose a big threat to Taiz."

The officials said "18 confirmed cases, three fatalities, three recovery cases and 150 suspected cases have been recorded" in the government-held part of Taiz since the first infection case was reported on 1st May.

The Director of Health Ministry office Rajeh al-Muleiki said they are doing their best "to track the sources of and contain the plague despite the shortage of funds and resources."

Taiz city has been subject to a six year siege and non-stopping military incursion attempts by the Houthi theocratic militia and the health system in the city is barely functional.
