Yemen governorates condemn STC self-rule announcement

The governors and local authorities of several southern Yemeni governorates have condemned the announcement by the separatist Southern Transitional Council (STC) on early Sunday that it would establish self-rule in the south.

The armed group deployment forces in Aden, the interim capital, and announced emergency rules in the governorates of the south under their control.

"The statement of the STC is a coup against the legitimate government and a sabotage of the Riyadh Agreement of November 2019," said the local authority of Socotra archipelago.

"Militias cannot be a replacement for the state," read a statement issued by the governmental Security Committee of Shabwa."No one has the right to declare emergencies but the legitimate President only," it said.

"We are surprised by the identical recklessness of the militias in the south and north," it said referring to the Houthi militia fighting a six year against the government in the north.

The local authorities of Mahra, Abyan and Hadhramout similarly condemned the move and voiced support to President Abd-Rabbu Mansour Hadi's government.
