Yemen FM says Houthis honor no deals

Yemen's Foreign Minister Mohammed al-Hadhrami said the Houthi rebel militia honor no deals and always use the lack of clear tracking tools on de-escalation commitments to mobilize fighters for new rounds of violence.

In a phone conversation with Niels Annen the German Minister of State at the Federal Foreign Office, al-Hadhrami condemned the Houthi continued violations of the ceasefire the Arab Coalition and Yemeni army unilaterally declared on April 9 upon the call of the UN Secretary General.

He cited the Houthi default on the older agreement of Stockholm which the government and the militants in December 2018 to lift the suffering the Houthis brought upon the people of Hodeidah city. He said that more than one year after the deal was signed, "we are still in square one" since Houthis made no concrete implementation of any of the agreement's terms.

He said the government has always been and still keen on reaching a peaceful settlement, but a lasting one, based on the three agreed-upon terms of reference; the GCC Initiative, the outcomes of the national dialogue of 2013-2014, and the UN Security Council's resolution no. 2216 (2015.)
