The Yemeni Government renewed its constant and clear support for a settlement of the years long conflict with Houthi rebels in line with the three terms of reference for peace on top of which is the UNSC resolution no. 2216.

In a statement to the UN Security Council, Yemen's permanent representative to the UN Abdullah al-Saadi said Yemen supports the efforts of the UN Secretary General's Special Envoy Martin Griffiths as he seeks to broker a lasting comprehensive peace and end the six year suffering of the Yemeni people resulting from the Houthi war, now in its sixth year.

"The government has responded to all invitations and initiatives to cease hostilities and de-escalate," he said referring to the UNSG's call and President Hadi's instructions for ceasing of fire from the government's unilateral side to refocus resources on clamping down on any emergence of coronavirus.

He, however, stressed the need for an international action to prevent the Houthi exploitation of the government's and Arab Coalition's unilateral ceasefire to escalate and prepare for more determined advance attempts like in all the previous truces.

He called on the international community to press the rebel militia into responding to the peace calls without preconditions.
