Yemen's Finance Minister Salem Bin Breik discussed with the US ambassador to Yemen, Christopher Henzel, the possibility of providing technical support to the Ministry of Finance in the temporary capital Aden, and helping rebuild Yemen's financial system.

They addressed the repercussions that the coup and imposed war of the Iranian-backed Houthi militia left on the economic situation. Talks also went over the Houthi restrictions against the government's transfer of salaries to state employees in the militia's areas of control.

The Minister reviewed the measures taken by his ministry in rebuilding the ministry’s public office in the temporary capital Aden, its need for logistical and technical support in reforming the state’s public finances, support for a comprehensive tax reform system, and building the capacity of the ministry’s employees in Aden and in other liberated governorates .

In return, the US Ambassador Christopher Henzel hailed the measures taken by the government represented by the Ministry of Finance in the gradual rebuilding of the financial sector in accordance with the capabilities available to the state. He stressed his country's keenness to support the legitimate government and studying the impact of technical assistance provided by the United States to Yemen in raising state revenues to maintain the economy.

He noted his country's interest in providing humanitarian and logistical assistance to the government to handle the possible risks of coronavirus outbreak.
