Yemen's central city of Taiz began on Saturday closing public venues including shopping malls, mosques, wedding halls and the markets of mildly narcotic Qat leaves as fears mount that coronavirus infections could erupt in the country.
A security campaign enforced the closure of these spaces and launched a disinfection spray campaign to prevent the outbreak of the now international pandemic in the small crowded city that has been under six-year siege by Houthi militants.
