Yemen's Information Minister has warned the Houthi militants besieging the government-held city of Taiz for nearly six years are exploiting the coronavirus hysteria as a pretext to tighten the siege even more.

In a statement to Saba, Muammar al-Eryani said the coupist militia "are exploiting the international hysteria over the pandemic to settle scores with the oppositionist masses and the government controlled territories mainly the provincial capital of Taiz around which they are further tightening the longstanding siege under the pretext of precautionary measures."

He said the militia are even using the carrot and stick approach "to gather people everyday into religious events to mobilize new fighters into the warfronts."
