Minister of Education, Dr. Abdullah Lamlass, said his ministry is making great efforts in partnership with the UN World Food Program to alleviate the impact of the Houthi war on Yemeni children in basic education schools.
In a statement to the Yemeni news agency (Saba) on the occasion of the International Education Day, which annually falls on January 24, he said the war negatively affected the quality of teaching and learning and caused the displacement of thousands of children with their families from one region to another within the country.
The ministry and the WFP, he said, continue to provide morning meals in schools to alleviate hunger amongst schoolchildren.
He reiterated the commitment of the ministry and the WFP to ensure that the most vulnerable girls and boys have access to quality and appropriate education.
He emphasized the necessity of the measure to achieve the United Nations' sustainable development goals of eliminating hunger, reducing poverty and providing quality education for all.
