[23/12/2019 06:32]

ADEN-SABA
Prime Minister Dr. Ma'een Abdulmalk blamed Houthi rebel militia for intentionally targeting the national economy, continuing its irresponsible devastating financial practices.

The most recent and dangerous one is banning dealing with the banknotes issued by the Internationally recognized government.

" This damning lethal move requires practical reaction by the UN to stop the militia' messing up with national currency that will further exacerbate the Yemeni peoples' suffering and humanitarian disastrous crisis", said Ma'een.

His statement came as he convened a session Monday in the interim capital Aden included the senior officials of Finance Ministry and the Central Bank of Yemen (CBY).

The session devoted to discuss the necessary procedures to maintain the exchange rate of the national currency and explore practical measures to deal with the militia's irresponsible and illegal measures about banning dealing with the national currency, namely banknotes issued by the legitimate government in the militia-controlled regions.

The Prime Minister urged the Special Envoy of the UN Secretary General to Yemen Martin Griffiths and International Community to pile up pressures upon the rebellious militia to immediately refrain from its damaging policies that have devastating impacts upon the national economy.

The discussions also touched upon the practical steps have been taken to pay the government's employees' salaries in civil service, military and security institutions in the government-held regions.
