The Yemeni Government held official talks with the World Bank (WB) on Tuesday here in Riyadh. The discussions co-chaired by Prime Minister Dr Ma'een Abdulmalik and President of the WB group David Malpass .
The session aimed to discuss aspects of cooperation between the Government and WB in several spheres including future plans of reconstruction and major projects help mitigating the humanitarian crisis caused by Houthi militia's coup and war.
Dr Ma'een stated that WB has long been active partner in the development and reforms process in Yemen. He highlighted the WB's constant support in our country since the onset of the ongoing conflict.
He touched upon the reforms the government has carried out recently in the public finance, banking system and oil fuels market, despite the extremely complicated and tough circumstances the country has been enduring.
" There have been reasonable achievements helped to prevent overall collapse of the economy, stop national currency slide, maintain acceptable exchange rate of the Yemeni Rial (YR), and some 65% of the civil service employees have been paid ", said Ma'een.
The Prime Minister underscored the need for greater support by the WB to finance major projects in education, fishery, and transport.
For his part Malpass voiced his support for the reforms the Yemen Government has been working on.
