Yemeni, American officials converse over preserving the Yemeni antiquities

Senior Yemeni officials of the Ministry of Culture and a consultative panel from the American Government are set to discuss the request submitted by the Yemeni Government to the US administration to ban import, export and dealing with the Yemeni antiquities in the American market.

The Minister of Culture Marwan Dammaj is heading the Yemeni delegation to the talks hosted by the American embassy in Cairo.

Separately, a seminar on the protection of the Yemeni antiquities organized by the Yemeni Culture Center in Cairo.
A number of Yemeni officials and specialists charged preserving the Yemeni antiquities and some Interested American officials contributed to the discussions.

In his opening remarks the Minister Dammaj urged doubling down the efforts to preserve the Yemeni treasures, regain the looted ones.

The Chairman of the General Organization for Antiquities and Museums (GOAM) Ahmed BaTae'a provided a detailed presentation about the serious damages that several Yemeni museums have suffered due to the armed conflict the country has gone through over the past four years.

He cited the museums of Dhamar, Aden, Taiz, Sayoon and Zungbar as the most affected of all, underscoring the need for an immediate intervention to rescue large amounts of Yemeni antiquities in these museums.
