NEW YORK -SABA
On the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York, Foreign Minister Mohammed Al-Hadhrami met with the Undersecretary-General of the United Nations, the Special Representative for Children and Armed Conflict, Virginia Gamba.
The Minister made plain the suffering of children in Yemen being subject to systematic military recruitments and other systematic abuses.
He noted that the government has signed an Action Plan to prevent the recruitment of child soldiers and adopted a child protection protocol.
He stressed the imperative that the office of the UN Secretary General avoids drafting reports in such a way that sends wrong signals to the Houthis but rather to pressure the irresponsible militia to comply with the international law.
For her part, Ms. Jamba praised the high level of cooperation of the Yemeni government, especially the efforts exerted to implement the Action Plan signed between the government and UNICEF.
They agreed to work on the launch of a national plan for the protection of children in cooperation between the Yemeni government and the office of Ms. Jamba, which will focus on raising public awareness on the rules of child protection.
