Yemen parliament speaker warns against partition of Yemen
[20/08/2019 04:50]

RIYADH-SABA
The speaker of the Yemeni parliament has warned against any attempts to partition Yemen "and the consequences of doing that on Yemen and the region."

In a meeting with the British ambassador and acting US ambassador to Yemen, Sultan al-Barakani said the secessionist moves serve primarily the Houthi militia and the Iranian agenda in the region.

He gave the diplomats an account on the recent secessionist takeovers of the temporary capital Aden and Abyan province to the north of it. He said the political leadership, with help from Saudi Arabia, is acting to deal with the rebellion of the Southern Transitional Council in the two provinces.

He called on the United Nations and the UN Security Council and the peace sponsoring countries to assume their responsibilities towards what is going on. He stressed the imperative of the UN Special Envoy's move to revitalize the political process so to end the rebellion of the different militias (in Yemen's north and south) and to put an end to the suffering of the Yemeni people.

He said that what is happening in Abyan now is an attempt to disrupt the big efforts Saudi Arabia is exerting to contain the situation in Aden.

The two diplomats confirmed their big concern about Yemen and their permanent support to Yemen's unity, security and stability.
