Govt condemns fresh Houthi 'massacre' against civilians in Saada
[30/07/2019 10:21]
ADEN-SABA

Yemen's government strongly condemned the Houthis for committing a fresh "massacre" against civilians in the rebel militia's own stronghold of Saada north of Yemen on Monday.

The militia fired Katyucha rockets on Al-Thabet market in Qataber a Saada district in the borders with Saudi Arabia on Monday killing 10 civilians and injuring 20 others who happened to be shopping at the time.

"This reflects the mentality and modus operandi of rogue guerillas that seek to impose their coup d'état with dirtiest and most desperate means," said the government in a press release.

The government said the militia wants "to punish the people of the district (Qataber) collectively for their rejection of the Houthi rebellion."

The government said the UN and international attitude of turning a blind eye "to this massacre, the massacre of Hajoor in Hajjah, the massacre of Sanah in Dhale'a, the massacre of the main market in Marib, the massacre of al-Bab al-Kabeer in Taiz, and the execution and dragging of corpses here and there has been emboldening Houthis to go beyond ISIL and al-Qaeda's terrorism."

"It is time for the international community to take a clear and frank position towards this despicable terrorism … to save the population living in the territories still controlled by the Houthis."

The government demanded the international community not limit themselves "to shy condemnations."
