Yemen, UAE sign memo of understanding to supply 100 MGW turbine

Republic of Yemen and Khalifah bin Zayed al-Nahyan Charity Foundation signed a memorandum of understanding on Wednesday in the Emirati capital Abu Dhabi.

Under the agreement the UAE will supply Yemen with 100 MGW gas-operate turbine to be installed in al-Hesswah Electricity Station in the temporary capital Aden.

The memo inked by Minister of Planning and International Cooperation Dr Najeeb al-Aweg and Deputy Chief of Khalifah Foundation Ahmed Azo'abi.

Under the agreement the Emirati side will install and operate the turbine for one year during which the Yemeni cadres will be trained to operate it later on.

The Prime Minister Dr Ma'een Abdulmalik who was in presence upon signing the memo underscored the importance of this project that will help improving electricity service in the temporary Aden.

Dr Ma'een highlighted Yemen's need for greater support by fraternal and friendly countries to electricity sector given that it is an essential factor for development.

The Prime Minister highly appreciated the UAE's substantial support for Yemen in different spheres, including electricity. He also voiced thanks for the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia's unlimited support for the Yemeni peoples in all walks of life, citing the $ 60 million Saudi fuels grant per month to support electricity as a case-in-point.
