Yemen, IOM discuss influx of illegal migrants to Yemen

Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Mohammad al-Hadhrami discussed Tuesday with Representative of International Organization for Migration in Yemen John Miku influx of illegal migrants to Yemen.

Al-Hadhrami confirmed keenness of the government on dealing with this phenomenon seriously for its security and humanitarian repercussions on Yemen and the region, pointing out that a committee from interior ministry and other relevant government bodies and the IOM has been formed for tackling this issue.

He called on the organization for providing humanitarian services and shelters to illegal migrants and working on their quick return to their countries via voluntary return programs.

He stressed finding solutions to face this phenomenon and tackling prime reasons behind influx of illegal refugees from the Horn of Africa to Yemen, which include conflicts and economic and social challenges, as well as propagandas for misleading migrants.

For his part, the UN official said the organization made field visit and provided necessary humanitarian materials to illegal migrants in coordination with foreign ministry and concerned bodies.

He made it clear that the first batch of migrants will be departed through direct flights from Aden to their countries, confirming organization's commitment for continuous work and cooperation with the government for helping Yemen face this problem.
