Info Minister calls on UN to investigate Houthi enforced recruitment of fighters
[03/03/2019 11:17]

ADEN -SABA
The Houthis fighting the Yemeni government since September 2014 have stepped up their enforced recruitment of tribal fighters in their areas of control in north Yemen over the past few days.

Information Minister Muammar al-Eryani told Saba that the militia is deploying new recruits to the warfronts at gunpoint, after the recent decrease of manpower in the militia's ranks and the increase in public rejection of the militia's incessant war.

"Reports from the field confirm that the militia are forcing people to choose between going to the battle lines or delegating another member of one's family to go on their behalf," he continued, "Already they had collected a count of the members of every family."

Al-Eryani called on the United Nations, the UN Security Council, the UN Special Envoy for Yemen and human rights organizations to investigate into this compulsory recruitment which targets children on a large scale.

The militia is focusing its recruitment drive in the provinces of Amran, Hajjah and Mahweet these days.
